چکیده
Abstract The hardfill embankments are composed of cemented sand-gravel (CSG) mixtures. In some cases, however, sand and gravel used in the mixture contain fine-grained fraction. This paper aimed to study mechanical behavior microstructure CSG mixtures which base soil contains particles with different plasticity specifications. Various contents kaolinite bentonite were added a sand-cement cement uniaxial strength deformation modulus measured at two curing ages. According results, low mixtures, containing 10% additive exhibited maximum modulus, regardless type. family bentonite-containing higher cement, decreased increasing content. However, presented best performance from terms stiffness. Analyzing mineralogy SEM images showed that structure attained packing strong matrix was devolved inside fine additive. Furthermore, contributed hydration process cement.

Impact of Fiber Reinforcement on Deformation Characteristics of Cemented Sand-Gravel Mixtures
This paper describes triaxial compression tests conducted to determine the effect of fiber inclusion on stiffness and deformation characteristics of sand-gravel mixtures. Tested soil was a mixture of Babolsar sand from the shores of the Caspian Sea and Karaj River gravel. Portland cement was used as the cementing agent and fibers 12mm in length and 0.023mm in diameter at 0%, 0.5% and 1.0% were ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Geopolymerization on the Unconfined Compressive Strength of Stabilized Fine-grained Soils
This study focuses on evaluating the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of improved fine-grained soils. A large database of unconfined compressive strength of clayey soil specimens stabilized with fly ash and blast furnace slag based geopolymer were collected and analyzed. Subsequently, using adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), a model has been developed to assess the UCS of stabi...
متن کاملAn Investigation on the Effects of Aggregates Properties on the Performance of Unbound Aggregate Base Layer
Unbound aggregates are the most common type of materials used for construction of the base layer of flexible pavements in Iran and worldwide. Due to the lack of binder, the performance of the compacted unbound aggregates is highly dependent on the properties of the gravel (particles remaining on sieve 4.75mm, sand (particles passing sieve 4.75mm and remaining on sieve 0....

Introduction: Particulate matter (PM) is known as the most common cause of air pollution in the world. Activities of sand quarries are known as one of the emission sources in Tehran. This study aimed at investigating the geological and environmental factors of airborne particles in an active quarry in the west of Tehran. Material and Methods: Three methods of dust sampling were used. totally, ...
متن کاملShear strength and microstructure of 3D assemblies of platy particles
As a first step towards particle-scale modeling of clayey soils, we investigate the mechanical behavior and microstructure of assemblies of three-dimensional rectangular platy particles by means of the discrete element method. Several samples composed of particles of different levels of platyness (ratio of width to thickness) were numerically prepared and sheared to large deformations. We analy...
